Tourism in Mgahinga National Park Uganda
Located in south western Uganda, shares part of the Virunga mountain ranges where we find half of the world’s remaining population of the endangered mountain gorillas. Mgahinga National Park has only one gorilla family called Nyakagezi, very friendly and loved by visitors to the park.
However, this gorilla group is not stable because, some times it crosses the International boundary to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Virunga National Park in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Its now 3 years ever since Nyakagezi returned to Uganda.

Gorilla permits cost US$600 per person for foreign non residents while foreign residents pay US dollars 475. East African Residents on the other hand pay US$375 and Ugandas pay UGX 250.000 only. There is a promotion discount every year in low season where each gorilla permit costs US dollars 350 each for foreign non residents. Bookings are made direct through Uganda Wildlife Authority Head Quarters in Kampala (firstname.lastname@example.org), or through credible travel agents like African Jungle Adventures Limited, Gorilla Expeditions, 4×4 Uganda, Matooke Tours, Kazinga Tours and Uganda Luxury safari Limited among others.
Popular tourist activities in Mgahinga National Park
The park is famous for mountain gorilla tours, with a maximum of only 8 persons allowed per day. The park also inhabits the rare golden monkeys and visiting this specie of primates requires only US dollars 50 per person.
The Batwa Trail offers visitors an opportunity to explore the Batwa (Pygmy) cultures and historical ways of life. The Batwa are original inhabitants of the forests where the gorillas live. They used to co-exist with the mountain gorillas in Bwindi Forest and Mgahinga. They are hunters and gatherers. When you visit Mgahinga national park, spend a day with the batwa in the forest and learn more about their culture and daily ways of life.
Bird Life is prolific in Mgahinga National Park. There is also Mount Gahinga hiking and once you reach the summit, you are able to enjoy fantastic views of the 5 peaks of Virunga Mountains in Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

By Road: Driving from Kampala is about 9 hours drive to Mgahinga National park. It also be access through Kigali (Rwanda), it only takes 4-5 hours drive through Cyanika boarder.
By Air: A flight from Entebbe International Airport to Kisoro Air strip takes less than 1 hour. Aero Link Uganda has daily scheduled flights along this route. You can also use use a private charter from Kampala aero club or Eagle Air among others.
